Expectations for HEA Post-Workshop Requirements
K-12 Educator Professional Development Workshop
Each Ambassador will design, submit and implement a plan for at least two (2) professional development workshops for K-12 educators. Ambassadors will submit plans for these workshops and hold them before September 30, 2015. Each workshop will have at least 20 participants and will utilize the GEMS Space Science Sequence Guide for Grades 6-8, materials and resources from the Chicago workshop. One plan for the workshops may be submitted, or two different plans can be offered, according to the preference of the Ambassador. Ambassadors are expected to administer, collect and score pre and post-workshop content knowledge surveys and submit the information to the program evaluator.
Direct Audience Engagement
Each Ambassador will design, submit and implement a plan for using activities and materials demonstrated during the workshop with an informal audience, such as a floor program, afterschool venue, or camp group. Included in the plan will be an assessment tool for evaluating the participating audience. Results of these assessments will be submitted to the program evaluator before September 30, 2015.
Training and Mentoring
Each Ambassador will be responsible for recruiting another informal educator who they will train to use the curriculum, materials and resources received at the Chicago intensive workshop. Ambassadors will mentor and support the recruit in designing and implementing a professional development workshop for K-12 educators, or series of activities to use with a direct audience. Additional materials and curriculum will be provided to the Ambassador to lend or give their recruit. Program plans from the recruit will include a plan for assessment and identification of evaluation method or tool that will be used. Both recruit’s plan and a report of resulting outcome of program, including any evaluation results will be submitted to the program evaluator before September 30, 2015
Post-workshop Webinars
Over the next 6 months, three to five online webinars will be offered to participants that will focus on offering ongoing opportunity to:
- Connect, share experience and ask questions of other HEA program participants,
- Hear from additional NASA Heliophysics mission scientists and educators,
- Receive additional correlating resources and activities to share with your audiences
HEA Participants are expected to participate in each of these webinars. Any absences must be noted prior to the webinar and an opportunity will be offered for the HEA to meet the requirement. All webinars will be recorded and made available to the participants to view for future reference and refreshers.
